Summary:
The Staff Accountant is a key member of the Accounting team and works closely with all members of the team in meeting close deadlines, working with various general ledger modules, preparing account reconciliations, and supporting internal and external audits.

Responsibilities:
Reconcile monthly investment portfolio information from custodian to general ledger and investment manager reports for WellSense GAAP and STAT set of books and records Maintain investment accounting at the level of detail necessary to appropriately state investment bonds and stock balances, realized gain/losses, unrealized gains and losses as well as investment income Responsible for reconciling all investment accounts; examines transactions in these accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy; distribution of monthly reconciliation reports as well as reconciling items in a timely manner and in compliance with MAR control requirements Prepare investment account roll-forward schedules to outline beginning/ending investment balances and activity by transaction type Review investments at a line level to measure impairment per WellSense policy Research and analyze investment fluctuations and communicate key drivers to management, interpret accounting guidance and compliance regulations pertaining to Investments Prepare additional schedules to verify that investments are invested per Committee directive Assist with preparation of NAIC and audited financial statement footnotes and schedules for quarterly and annual filings Develop relationship with statutory accounting firm to develop dashboards designed to measure quality of investments Review employee office supply requests and approves in compliance with WellSense policy Assist with the implementation of travel expense report system to automate current manual aggregation of business expense report Review expense reports in travel expense report system to ensure coding is accurate for accounting purposes Prepare monthly journal entries, analyzes and reconciles assigned general ledger accounts and reporting deliverables.
Assist in the preparation of GAAP and Statutory audit deliverables Participate in other external audits relating to system and WellSense specific fiscal years, calendar years and associated reporting Other ad hoc requests and other strategic oraccounting duties/projects to support the Accounting team as they ariseSupervision Exercised:

Qualifications:
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
CPA License preferred.
Insurance accounting investment experience preferredExperience Required:
One or more years progressively responsible accounting experienceRequired Licensure, Certification or Conditions of Employment:
Successful completion of pre-employment background checkCompetencies, Skills, and Attributes:
Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices under GAAP and statutory accounting.
High proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Systems.
Detail oriented, focus on accuracy.
Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent verbal and communication skills.
Experience in or knowledge of managed care or health care financial systems preferred.
Willingness and ability to perform day-to-day fiscal activities at all levels.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, work accurately, meet deadlines and provide effective management reporting is required.
Excellent interpersonal skills required to develop and maintain effective working relationships across all levels within the organization is of the essence of this position.
Ability to work both independently and as part of team.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage modest projects successfully.
Detail-oriented, excellent proof reading and editing skills.
Collaborative, service oriented dealing with peers and Boston Medical Center staff.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
