Purpose and Scope The Vertical Transportation Compliance Officer will:
ensure overall vertical maintenance contract compliance, inspect, and review maintenance and repair work done to Authority equipment such as escalators and elevators; verify and approve invoices, schedules, and review design criteria; and develop and implement vertical transportation programs.
The Vertical Transportation Compliance Officer will ensure that inspection/maintenance requirements and schedules, safety standards, and timelines established by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and other regulatory bodies are adhered to and that required corrective repair actions by the contractor and the Authority is completed in order to obtain DPS certificates.
Duties & Responsibilities Principal Duties and Responsibilities Ensure compliance with capital upgrade/replacement programs; assist in the planning, review and oversight of engineering and construction standards.
Ensure that the MBTA operates and maintains its vertical transportation equipment to meet its overall mission and goals.
Establish policies and procedures that comply with the various applicable State and Federal Laws, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.
Set performance and reliability/availability measures.
Provide status reports on the operation and administration of the department's role in support of the Authority's Mission Statement.
Interact with various MBTA departments in support of vertical transportation programs.
Assist with planning, developing, and administering the operating and capital budgets and programs for the Authority's vertical transportation systems Interact with senior management to develop organizational and/or procedural changes to improve departmental operations and policies Cooperate and collaborate with Subway, Bus and Railroad Operations, Safety, Legal, Design & Construction and Operations Support.
Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the Authority's customer service quality standard.
Respond, either directly or through others, to emergencies twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed.
Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Adhere to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies; and perform related duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications Minimum Education A bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field.
Minimum Experience and Required Skills Four (4) years of experience in managing maintenance and/or construction contracts related to vertical transportation.
Experience with design and plan review.
Possession of a valid elevator or escalator constructor, maintainer, or repairer license and/or a QEI License.
Knowledge of Massachusetts Elevator Regulations and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Effective organizational, analytical, confidentiality, multi-tasking, time management and documentation skill.
Working knowledge of MS Office or Database applications.
Effectively communicate with regulatory agencies, community organizations and others on technical and sensitive matters.
Have excellent customer service, negotiation, conflict resolution, writing and communication skills.
Have a valid driver's license.
Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
Available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
Have the ability to work with a diverse workforce.

Experience with vertical transportation related Massachusetts General Laws and APTA and FTA guidelines.
