Postdoctoral Fellow

PositionA post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr.
Stephen Gomperts, co-investigator in the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND) PD Research Unit and AD Research Unit, member of the Massachusetts Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Director of the Lewy Body Dementia Unit, and Assistant Professor, Harvard Medical School.
The post-doctoral fellow will be working in a collaborative project (spanning multiple labs at MIND) focused on evaluating small molecule therapeutic strategies to arrest and reverse neuropathologies of Parkinson's disease in animal models.
The candidate will join an exciting, collaborative research environment at MIND and the Department of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The position offers exceptional training in Parkinson's disease and molecular therapeutics.
The lab:
Our lab takes three lines of inquiry to develop therapeutically-relevant insights into diseases of the central nervous system:
(1) We study how populations of neurons represent information, encode memories, and coordinate across brain regions in the service of behavior; and how to rescue the failure of these processes in disease.
Specifically, we examine the contribution of neuromodulator systems to hippocampal function and of neuropathology cascades to its failure in Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and related diseases using multi-electrode recording, dynamic calcium imaging, and opto/chemogenetics in freely behaving animals.
(2) We evaluate promising therapeutic strategies to arrest and reverse these diseases.
(3) We exploit human PET imaging to develop new insights and therapeutic strategies for these diseases.
