Highway Maintenance Foreman - Tunnels

The incumbent of this position functions as the shift supervisor for the assigned location. Duties will include:
Monitors and participates, as a working shift supervisor, with a crew involved in the upkeep of highways, roadways, tunnels, bridges, ramps and adjacent areas by sweeping, collecting and removing rubbish, debris from accidents and animal carcasses from the ground, sidewalks and highways; by cutting grass and raking leaves; by cleaning clogged drains, catch basins, manholes and pipes to assure adequate drainage; by installing new or adding to existing drainage systems; by installing and repairing curbing; by patching roadway, including breaking surfaces with hand or power tools and mixing and spreading a variety of paving materials.
Responds to emergencies including vehicular accidents, tunnel/roadway/bridge failures, hazardous material spills; provides proper safety controls and collects and prepares any and all required documentation resulting from the incident.
Supervises and coordinates snow and ice removal operations in an assigned area including hired contractors and MassDOT staff.
Provides for the safety of work crew through the placement of signs and other safety devices to provide warning to motorist in accordance with MassDOT Standards.
Maintains records of work completed, equipment and materials used, employees' time and attendance and highway conditions.
Performs related duties such as requisitioning supplies and equipment; loading and unloading materials and equipment; opening and/or securing buildings; and performing preventive maintenance and making minor repairs to assigned machinery, equipment and motor vehicles.
Determine the type and amount of materials, personnel and equipment required to perform assigned work.
Inspects highways, roadways, tunnels, bridges and ramps to determine the effectiveness of work performed, the need for maintenance and repair; to establish work priorities and to make recommendations to D6 Operations Engineer concerning work activities.
Prepares reports to provide information to superiors on work progress and costs and problems encountered and to make recommendations concerning assigned activities.
Approves time off requests, confirms and signs timesheets of work crews.
It is required that applicants possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and a valid Hoisting Engineer's License Class 2B and 4A (the 4A can be substituted with the 4E and the 4G) issued by the Department of Public Safety.

For the purpose of bargaining unit designation, Unit 2 is equivalent to MassDOT Unit B.
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, construction or maintenance of highways, streets or roadways of which (B) at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Special Requirements: Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
